Situational Analysis

The situational assessment for horticultural therapy reveals a promising outlook, particularly in light of rising demand for mental health solutions and the aging population. However, the sector faces challenges related to awareness, standardization, and competition from other therapeutic modalities. Growth opportunities exist in corporate wellness programs, digital health integration, and leveraging the sustainability trend. Strategic initiatives focusing on increasing awareness, expanding training programs, and forming partnerships with healthcare and corporate sectors can help mitigate some of the threats while capitalizing on emerging opportunities.

The situational analysis will include three specific areas:

- SWOT, a four-cell chart containing internal and external factors of the chosen healthcare organization

- Environmental forces, research into university health centers as well as health services or programming for university students.

- Competitive analysis, an analysis of  weaknesses and strengths of the competitors to the selected organization

SWOT

Here you'll find a four-cell chart containing internal and external factors related to the selected health care organization.

Environmental Factor #1

Economic and social environmental forces could have an impact on my marketing plan.
Implementing a room full of plants could get costly, especially when having to account for how
expensive live plants are, the operational space and the team needed to care for the plants. This
impacts my marketing plan because I must show how the positive impact on a patient's health
can outweigh the high cost. With global inflation, it must be accounted for that prices are up. The
social and cultural environmental forces have an impact because in some cultures therapy is not
looked at as helpful. That thought process can be transferred to students who later will have a
more difficult time of being open to the idea of therapy; let alone the idea of plant therapy

Economic and Social

Better Mynd

Environmental Factor #2

Better Mynd provides mental health services for college students. Similarly to IUI’s CAPS
program. They are competitors because they both focus on student mental health services;
however, they are different in some respects. Better Mynd is free, however your school needs to
be partnered with them. They have different types of workshops to help with mental health,
which CAPS does not have. The Better Mynd Sessions are online, while CAPS is on the in-
person side of things. Both offer quality therapists which high degrees. CAPS does offer
medication services, which Better Mynd does not.
